Es Migjorn, the more traditional Menorca

Its origin dates back to the construction of the church of Sant Cristòfol, in 1768. It is from 1989 when it adopted its current name and stands as an independent municipality.

Es Migjorn Gran is a predominantly rural small town situated between Es Mercadal and the beach of Sant Tomàs. Although tourism development has partially modified its urban structure, Es Migjorn fully preserved the traditional architecture of its original centre and draws attention to its features white booths, immersed in a beautiful terraced agricultural landscape.

The essence of Menorca’s people: The Calm

Currently, the economic d’Es Migjorn Gran is closely linked to the tourist development of the beach of Santo Tomas, although the agricultural sector is having some relevance.

The town is surrounded by rural roads, from which you can make multiple trips. The walking route between Sant Tomas and Es Migjorn is recommendable. This is a walk through woods and cliffs that ends in the crystal clear sandy south.

Also worth entering in the Cova des Coloms, also called “the cathedral” for its large dimensions.

In the vicinity of Es Migjorn found many prehistoric remains, among which the talaiots de Sant Agusti Vell.

A very famous inhabitant of this municipality was Joan Riudavets, born 1889, who became the oldest person in the world (114 years) between May 2003 and March 2004.[/vc_column_text]
