Fiestas de Menorca
The horse is the main protagonist of the summer popular festivals in all the towns of Menorca. The calendar begins in June with Sant Joan in Ciutadella, the most famous, and ends in September with Mare de Déu de Gràcia in Maó.
The “caixers” and “cavallers,” dressed in the traditional “de just” costume, ride stallions —mostly of the Menorcan breed— and form the “qualcada,” a cavalcade that parades through streets and squares.
For two days, strict protocols are followed, alternating religious events with moments of great popular fervor, such as the “jaleos” in the main square, where riders, horses, and the public share the spectacle.
