The Born and the Cathedral, benchmarks

Ciutadella Cathedral, built in the fourteenth century under the rules of Catalan Gothic, is one of the main attractions of this beautiful city. He came to replace the large Muslim mosque and converted to Christian worship upon arrival on the island of Alfonso III. It consists of a single large ship, departing from the side chapels, and has been repaired and rebuilt many times that it is not surprising that these baroque elements, such as the chapel of Ses Animes, or neoclassical, as the main facade. Recent works have included the restoration of the Portal de la llum and placement of new gargoyles.

From the Cathedral Square, the natural route is to follow the street Josep Maria Quadrado, popularly known as Ses Voltes. This is undoubtedly the most typical image of Ciutadella. The whitewashed houses and the medieval element of these voltes contrast sharply with the sash windows, British heritage, and some colourful facades ocher or carmine, thus forming an unusual and extraordinarily beautiful image.

Later, the Plaça Nova uses a widening of the porches and is the favourite spot for the terraces of some bars in the days of summer. From there, it’s up to the start of Mahon Street, which runs into the Plaza de ses Palmeres, where are located several local celebrities as the fifth or Cas restaurant opposite, the bar is Moli des Comte, on the road from Mahon.

In relation to the end of Ciutadella places accessible from the city, the road leads north to Punta Nati, Cala Morell and the Vall de Algaiarens, places an austere beauty, as befits the Tramuntana area.

In addition, following the path that leads to the south crosses the western bays Santandria and Cala Blanca. In this direction are some of the most prized beaches all over the island, including Cala Turqueta, Cala Galdana and Macaralleta, as well as the Arenal de Son Saura. Also on this route will visit the archaeological site Catlar.
