Market Square

This square was created as a food market between 1868 and 1869, on the spot where the garden of the old Convent of the Augustinians once stood. The fish market and the gallery of butcher shops were built in 1895 and are among the few examples of iron architecture in the historic centre and the only ones of this type on the island. The market's arcades host a varied gastronomic offer and are therefore one of the most bustling and crowded areas in the city centre.
