The Torre d'en Penjat, built in 1798 at the eastern tip of the islet of Lazareto, was part of the defense system of Maó harbor during the British occupation. With three levels, it served as a storage facility, troop quarters, and artillery platform. At the end of the 19th century, two adjacent buildings were added for storing submarine defense materials and lighting projectors for night-time firing.
