Sa Fontassa is the popular name given to the public washhouse located less than a kilometer north of the village of Es Mercadal, along the Camí de Tramuntana.
This public building dates back to the late 19th century. It is a trapezoidal-shaped structure made of sandstone with a gable roof. It features two rounded arch doors and a large interior sink for washing clothes.
Sa Fontassa served as the public washhouse for the village of Es Mercadal, where local housewives would gather to do their laundry.
It is worth noting that it also functioned as a true center for social interaction among the townsfolk.
