Obelisk

A memorial monument erected to honour the heroic resistance of the population during the Ottoman assault of 1558. The project was designed by Rafael Oleo Quadrado and was completed in 1857. The text on the marble plaques, added in 1885 and written by historian Josep M. Quadrado Netto, reads: «Hic sustinuimus / Pro aris et focis / Usque ad mortem / Anno MDLVIII» (For God and our homeland, here we resisted unto death in the year 1558).
